15th
Fisher & I mess orderlies. Nearly all of us went on shore at 11 A.M. to be back on board at 1 P.M. Serg't Herron & Colin & I chummed it. Went up to Public Square & went up to Light House. Looked though L. H. Glass. Port Elizabeth named after Elizabeth Duncan, wife of the man who founded the Town in 1820. Pyramid monument in public Square in memory of her. Had a drink at Algoa Hotel. Went back to Station Restaurant and had a good dinner. Were told we could stay off till 4:15 P.M. Took Street Car up to the Public Park . Beautiful Park with all kinds of plants in it. Saw several African birds & goats & small deer. Went through a cemetery. Port Elizabeth is a nice clean town of about 30000 people. Saw a wagon with 7 ox teams on it and another with 7 mule teams. All got back on board & traveled out at 5 P.M. Moved along close to the coast . Could see Light Houses here & there.
