Fatigue party to kits out of the Hold. Left the Idaho on a lighter at 11 A.M. Landed at Dock and had lunch. Saw a fellow by name of Hasty. Had relations Curles. Took train up to Durban at 4 P.M. Entrance to River guarded by 7 War Ships. A string of Flags from bow to top of mast and the to stern. A very fine sight. Left our rifles and side arms on Table in station. Lance Corp'l and I guarded them for first while. Had lunch at 6 P.M. Mc Arthur & I walked through park. Beautiful fountain in it with Red & Blue lights on it. Gold fish in water around the bottom of it. We gave a Kafri 1s. to draw us around town. Large monument in park. Some fine Buildings in town. Post Office has a fine tower on it and the S.A. Mutual Life Assurance society have a beautiful building. You can wake up in Durban and pick your breakfast off the trees. Have horse cars in place of Electric Cars. 3 horses on a car. Pulled out for Pietermaritzburg at 8 P.M. Yelled ourselves hoarse. Up grade all the way, only 70 miles.
