Dear Mother:-
Here it is only two or three days since I wrote you before but I'll write again. Mr. Muehmore, our YMCA got a letter from you a few days ago and he spoke to me about it tonight. He said that he was going to write you so you have probably heard from him before now.
We have lovely weather here now. Mud pretty near two feet deep and raining all the time except when it is snowing. Do you know that I would be sick in bed and have pneumonias and everything else if I got half of what I am getting now, before I enlisted. My feet haven't been dry for days and I am wading around in mud all day but I am feeling just as well as if it were a dusty July day and I was working in Dr.Daniels'. Queer isn't it?
I had a letter from Herman also a Christmas card a couple of days ago. The card is very nice and I am going to send it to you to keep for me. I am going to send my diary to you soon. I mean the one which was written in 1917. It is not nearly full but I have nothing else to put in it. I have a little note book in which are three columns. When I get a letter I put the name of the sender in one column, the date it was received in the next and the date it was answered in the third. Not a bad idea, is it. There are a lot of little loose papers in my diary which I wish you would keep although they may seem to have no particular significance. One of the most important is a slip of paper with some pencil writing on it. I'll tell you the story of it someday. I wouldn't loose it for anything.
We were paid today. I got 2 [pounds] which will keep me going O.K. until next pay day.
They are going to [?] the newspapers in a few days and I will probably get a lot from you. I haven't got the snaps yet but I will soon, I guess.
Ralph and I went to a YMCA concert Party last night. It was a great one.
I have been having an awful time lately trying to get all my correspondence caught up. I have succeeded in all but one letter. I have got an awful whack of mail lately and have done some rushing. But I don't think I'll get any more for awhile now.
Well it is just about time for the YMCA to close so will have to do likewise.
Lovingly,
Ludlow
