Dear Mother:-

Your lovely box came the night before I left Witley and today is the first chance I've had to write you. It certainly contained about everything I wanted and so thanks Mother dear for sending it. The chess and the writing tablet will be very handy. I'm sorry I haven't the tablet here to write you on.

I am at Aldershott now. I came in from Mitchett this afternoon This morning I shot my musketry test and passed out-that is I am a qualified rifleman although I didn't do anything extra in the shooting line. Tomorrow we march back where we came-Witley. And me with a big blister on my heel. I guess I'll have to drop out on the way and finish the march on my own. Its funny, isn't it, how I can come into Aldershot (2 miles) and walk round all the afternoon on a sore foot. But when it comes to marching home- Oh my. it is next to impossible.

Do you know where Mr. E.E. Durkee is now. He is in the artillery. I was wondering for today I saw an artillery Lieut. Colonel who looked very much like him. I almost felt like asking him but if it weren't him I probably would have been shoved in the clink so I didn't.

Well I must close now. Thanks again ever so much for the box.

Lovingly
Ludlow
