Dear Earl,

I received you welcome letter a couple of days ago, and one from Ruth McLean. I haven't heard from home for about a week. I haven't heard from Sammy for quite awhile either. I thought sure I sent Sammy's no. to you. It is 436971, and I think Charlie's is 231214. I am working in the Sergt. Mess now.

It started to rain last night and has kept it up ever since, so it is none too dry around here now. I suppose you will be coming to the camp soon, because all the 47th casualties come here.

Well it will soon be Last Post so will have to close now, hoping you are getting along alright. Good-bye.

From your loving brother-in-law,
Ralph
