Diary

July 17 - My birthday; no one here knows or cares. Arrived at Port Arthur at dawn and marched on the CPR lake boat "Alberta". There we had a real breakfast. Hungry all of us, was no name for it. We were famished. Four of us had our photos taken uptown: Christie, McMerchy, Porter and all sergeants. At 3:30 p.m. all baggage stowed, all men aboard, and we pulled out on Lake Superior for Owen Sound, then home by train. A delightful trip in clean fresh air, and good food.
