August 17, 1944,

Mont Joli, P.Q.

Dear Mom,

Glad to hear that you're finally on vacation. I wouldn't mind being in Isaac's Harbour, myself for awhile.

About the sports shirt. I really wanted it before I went to St. Thomas on the twenty-eighth. Since I have no civilian clothes, here it would have been good if you had been able to get it.

You made a comment about "future daughter-in-law". One of the fellows here said, when I told him about travelling to St. Thomas, "It would be cheaper to marry the girl, than to travel like that so often." But I've a long way to go before such serious thoughts enter my head.

Be sure to tell me how everything goes in Isaac's Harbour.

Love, Lewis.
