Dear Mother

Just a few lines to let you know I am O.K and hope you are all enjoying good health. Have had lots of rain lately although no so much as we get in B.C. The ground here does not dry up so quickly though

Both your letter say you you had sent a parcel containing mitts sock muffler & cake some time ago. I have not received them yet but am expecting them every day.

I think I said in the last letter that when you send parcels dont send any woolen good except socks. So far I have had two mufflers sent to me. I dont know which I wasnt so many for. Tell Dad I thank him for offering to send underwear but it is no use

We have baths here and when we go there we get issued with clean clothes so you see there is no use carrying anything you do not have to. However you can tell that if he wants to send something cake goes very nice as a change from Army Rations. Just as dessert you see. In a letter I sent about a month ago I think I asked you to send me six dollars as we only get paid that much a month and it does not go very far here. You can send me $6 the first of every month taking it out of what I send last summer of course. I think it will be all right by Registered letter.

I wrote Charlie Bouger a letter a few weeks ago but have not heard from him yet.

Judging by Addres picture she is getting to be quite a young lady. You ask me if I want a sweater. No we just got issued with them a few weeks ago. About the only things worth sending besides candy and eatables (which are always welcome) is socks and mitts.

We lost our rank when we came here because there were fellows here who had been here since the start and naturally my address is No 1 Coy 7th Battn 1st Canadians. France the authorities gave them the preference as being more experienced men.

Well I think that is all for this time so I will close wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Goodbye
Charlie

P.S.

I wrote this on the 16th but I held it as I thought if I waited a few days I might be able to say I had got your parcel but have not done so yet and judging from what we hear there is such a congestion of mail at London that we will not get them for some time if at all. However I think it will be all right after the Xmas rush

Goodbye
Charlie
