Dear Folks-

I'm writting this on a Friday night because tomorrow morning I'm leaving on a 9 day leave. I've got about 24 pounds or $100 in the bank so am really going to see something or know the reason why. I'm going with the Lieut I came over with, its our first big splash and am really looking forward to it. The way we have things planned now, we will spend 3 days up in the Midlands with Leeds as our Headquarters then go to Scotland and visit Glasgow and stay at Edinburgh for another 3 days. If we have any money left we will stop off at points of interest between Edinburgh and London. We have made arrangements to stay at private homes at our two main stops.

Received your letter of July 22 to night and was glad to hear everything was going well.

Finally found Fred Andrusak and he paid me a visit last night. He is a Sargent and a good one too. He has a Jeep at his disposal all the time and I made arrangements to meet him and he'd show me his work. I brought over a box of chocolates for his family and he was sure well pleased. He hasn't changed much, he can still tell the story about Mr. Gregory's runnawas out on 23. He has steadied down a lot and is quiet a conciencious father. We have been about 3 miles apart for the last 2 months.

I guess you read about the big raid on the Italian cities last night Aug. 13. We could hardly get to sleep for the noise the bombers made going over and they woke us up at 4 in the morning comming back. They haven't started going over to-night but likely they'll be comming over anytime. They are big four motored planes they fly in loose formations but you can't begin to see the outside planes because they are so far away. There is just a steady drone for over an hour. Last night the noise lasted for almost 1 ½ hrs.

I don't know what to do about my Life Insurance I made an assignment before I left Vernon. Pay the premium out of that $50 I left at home and I'll check things here with the paymaster. It should be through by now.

Hope everything is going O.K. haven't received my watch yet but I am not in need of anything.

Yours truly Harvey
