Diary

March 30 - Drove to city in the morning. Called for Bill Heath who goes back to the west with me tomorrow. We went to Artie's office and saw the Queen's Own and Grenadiers pass to the train for the west to the scene of the troubles. Afternoon, on taking up a paper I read the account of Col. Williams, about to get up a battalion to go to the North West. At once telegraphed to him to take me. Got answer late at night to report myself at Port Hope at once. Too late to go tonight. Will leave in the morning. Delighted at the prospect of being able to take part in defending our country. Archie wishing to go with me.
