Dear Marion

Well here I am in a nice comfortable room I have not much longer to stay only three days, but I am going to make the best of them I have been up to Glasgow to see George Howies Uncle and cousins I only stayed two days but I would have like to stay longer as they made me so welcome They have 5 boys and three girls and such a beautiful house one of the boys was at home on his last leave before he joined the army and they had a party and we did have a good time I was really sorry to come away I got something in my eye a few days ago and it has been sore ever since but I am having a good time all the same Everybody is on rations here I had to go get my card to get mine It is cold here and I have not been much out I like to sit in front of the open fire and read I suppose that there will be some letters waiting for me in France when I get back I know that there is a parcel waiting for me but the will have eaten that up by now I have not been able to get to Stalybridge as this is such a hard place to get out of. I do not know if you ever got the photos of my cousins all in a group that I sent for you to take care of I am sending you a little photo of myself when I was a little boy and I hope that it gets there safely I hope that you are all keeping well and having a good time Remember me to your Father and Mother
