Letter from Pte. Tom Weaver

Mr. Wesley McKnight has received a letter from Mr. Tom Weaver dated May 26th. The place where the letter was written is not given, but some extracts from it may be of interest:
"You know the Regiment I am in, I think, but I cannot put it in the letter. I see there are other Liskeard boys enlisting. I get some northern papers. We were in some fighting at the Ypres. If any one thought we did not do much, they would think differently if they saw the casualty list. We were right in the midst of it, and I know it, too. It is a miracle how any of us got through. It just simply rained shells and shrapnel, and bullets were coming by thousands.
It is good that Italy has come into it. I think it will shorten the war. That gas they use is awful stuff. Killing is too good for such fellows.
I hope to be back and see you in the course of a few months. Remember me to Mr. Reid.
Sincerely yours,
TOM.
