My darling girl,

Your very welcome letter of Sep 13th to hand O.K., I also hope as you do that Myfanwy will change her mind before taking that irrivocable [sic] step, at the same time I very much doubt it. Had a slight accident last Sunday morning went with a bunch of officers for a ride, and while trotting along my horse sort of crossed his front feet & came down pinning me down by the left leg, fortunately the front arch of the saddle saved my leg from being smashed & I got off with only some bruises which has kept me on light duty for the last two days my horse however got off very badly cut both knees, his left shoulder & cut his jaw, so I guess I'll have to have another horse, will take a chance at being thrown off but by jove I want a horse that will stay on its feet, the day before Col McPherson was out riding and his horse slipped in turning a corner with the consequence that he had his ankle sprained & his knee badly bruised, he will be laid up for another week at least. Got moved to better quarters yesterday & have now got a room in the Commanding Officer's house sharing it with Hedley, it is very comfortable and cosy. I often hear from Dick Waller in fact got a letter from him two days ago, he is getting along fine & expects to get a week's leave in a fortnight's time. Ted Waller has been warned for the front & expects to leave some time this week.

Do I remember the day or night our first baby was born, well I should say so, and how in your weakness you cried & begged me not to let them take your baby away, it was a great event kiddy, and just imagine him being nine years old I do hope he got my little present & letter alright.

Yes darling it would be lovely if you were in Shorncliffe, am expecting your next letter will explain why you are not coming over, in answer to the letter I wrote you on the 1st of September.

Yes dearie am still teaching Musketry the Range Practices for the last draft we received commences next week, which means 2 weeks of long days at the Ranges at Hythe.

No more news this time dearie, love to Annie, David & Raymond, Fondest love to Eric, Gwladys, Frank & your dear self.

Your fond & loving,

Jim
