My dear boy.-

Just a few lines this morning - I was dreaming of soldiers & ships last night and I feel a bit depressed & wish that I could (?) away and see you - Papa wrote to you yesterday and has likely given you all the news - John & I went down to Parkes on motor cycle after dinner last night, but the young ladies had gone to bed - so John was disappointed - He is putting a brake lining in the Ford to day.

I am so glad that you were taking a little holiday. I hope that you got your new underwear before you went. You should have had it. They sent it promptly - I gave Gertie her button, she seemed pleased - Nearly every other person in Ashcroft has whooping cough, Willie Munro too - 10 out of the 11 passed the entrance. Thelma (?) was the unfortunate one. The Roycroft girl came first Hugh really made it stick, thanks to Selman - Hugh is at the Coast recuperating - Poor Reggie Christie was killed in Action - It is terrible, makes one positively ill - I hope you liked your box of eats. It is hard to know what to send so far. Hope the biscuits won't be too stale to eat and was sorry dear that I hadn't a pair of sox to put in pipe box - have a pair nearly done but they are Red Cross ones. Will do another pair for you right away. Tell me any improvements that you would like in them - Good buy dear for the present. Love & Hugs from your

loving Mamma

Have sent for my riding skirt, and am going to ride King & will get a whip and will take good care of your saddle for you.
