Winnipeg, June 29/16

Dear Mother: -

Well I arrived safe and sound on Tuesday afternoon and am staying at the Clearing Depot, or you could call it a convalescent home run by the I.O.D.E. in the Immigration hall. I was to go before a medical board yesterday and was let over to today and now they tell me I have to wait till tomorrow, so I do not know what they are going to do with me yet. I was surprised to see so many 63rd lads here, there is about eight of them in here and have met a few that are in some other outfit. Jack McEwen went away last Friday with the 101st. I was up to his place last night and they had had a letter from him and there are only 15 of the 63rd boys where he is and does not know where the rest of them are and they are in the 2nd C.M.R. battalion, so you can see that they must be split up pretty bad. There are hardly any soldiers left in Winnipeg now and they are still passing through. The 11th C.MR's and a train of sailors have gone through this week for the old country. I have not seen [?] yet as he is away out at the other end of the town and the Duke of Connought is opening their new home today. I have a good notion of trying to get in the C.A.S.C. or the ambulance corps here as they are sending away drafts and need more men to fill up.

I am in the same room as a 61st lad who was sent back from Halifax. We have beds to sleep in with white sheets and they give us dandy grub too, the boys hate to leave it. They have just told me that they are ready to take me before the Medical board so I will wait and see what they are going to do before I finish writing.

Friday
Well I did not go before the board and I guess there will be no chances of it before next week. I forgot to mail this before it was too late yesterday so you might not get this till Saturday now. Have had an awful heavy rain last night. I have not had any money yet but still have a bit left.

Well I guess there is nothing much more to tell about so I will close this and when I get fixed up will let you know, but I do not care how long they keep me here as it is a good place.

Love to all

from your loving son

Gordon
