Dear Mother.

I received your letter no 40 of Nov. 12 a couple of days ago which was the first from you for about six weeks, but have had a couple from Aunt Mabel as well as other Canadian letters. I left the hospital a week ago last Friday and went to convalescent for a week and came here last Friday and am now at the general depot where all category men in England are returning to as well as from France and have to have a final medical board before we leave and goodness knows how long that will take. I have no hopes of leaving for a month or so yet as things are in an awful mess and they don't know where they do stand. I felt fine when I came down here but the darn grub is punk and my stomach is out of order but do not get the pains that I used to have. I hope that you have all got over the flu by now. Aunt Mabel has sent me a couple of parcels but the way they handle the mail now will be lucky if I ever see them so there is no use to write any more until you here definitely from me. I got a letter from Mr. Porter from Norwich when I was in the hospital at Bramshott asking me to call on them after the letter had been travelling around for over a couple of months. If I was of A category now and back to the artillery reserve would have a better chance of getting home quicker but would have to carry equipment back as all A men are taking equipment home with them. The way they mess you about now is sickning as they have to many hanging around and lots of them are away absent & one thing or other that it will take weeks to straighten them up so you see I might be home in a month or it might be three or more but do not like the idea of landing in the middle of the winter. Hoping this finds everybody well and around by now. I have not bought ever a Xmas card this year for anybody. So will wish you all a Merry Xmas & a Happy new Year. With love to all from your loving son

Gordon
