My dear little son: -

Hello Billy, I got your message about the tin soldiers & german helmet & cartridges & I guess when I come home I'll get you something better than tin soldiers, & that you will like far more than a helmet etc just be a good boy, & help mother & be good to Shirley & you'll see what Daddy will get you - something real fine. You will like these cards I know. I did enjoy the Toffee & gum & dates etc etc that Shirley Mother & you sent to me, & I thought of you all when I ate them. Do you know that I forgot to put in Mother's letter the kisses - so here they are will you see that Shirley & Mother get them?
