My Dear Bill:

Well sugar I'm going to try to write a letter, but there really isn't anything new to tell you.

In the first place I can't understand why you haven't received all my letters, because I've had 52 from you. Bev. came running downstairs today with a letter from you in her hand, and said I should read it ‘cause there was something in it for me. She said I was to say hello to someone for you, and she couldn't figure out who it was. In the letter it had "say hello to Willie for me" so when I told her who "Willie" was she laughed and laughed. She's a cute kid, just like her brother. You know I think her brother is just "it," and I really don't think there is anyone like him. No kiddin'.

I had another letter from Jesse the other day, and she missed Len terribly, and I know just how she feels.

Darling, I'm trying to get you a "real" lucky charm. One of the girls that's staying with me, is going home this weekend, and she's going to get me a real rabbit's foot. I tried all the Jewelery stores, but they haven't any lucky charms, so I hope you'll be satisfied. I'll even kiss it before I send it, if it'll help bring you home again soon. Oh excuse me, I get so used to making periods with an x that I just do it automatically, (I don't know if this is spelled right, but you get the general idea) without thinking.

Listen you little drip, please, please, if you can help it, don't go in a pathfinder. I use to know quite a few boys who did, and they were air gunners, at that.

Bill, if there isn't any fire in your hut, you don't have to write to me every night, ‘cause I'll forgive you, even though I do love to hear from you. The more letters I get from you, the better I feel.

I'm terribly tired tonight, dear, so I hope you don't mind if I run along to bed. It's now 8:30 and I'm past my usual bed time.

All my love,

Hilda (Evelyn Cook.)

P.S. Now do you know what the E. stands for.
