Dear Mother:-

Received your welcome letter of Aug 8th with Frank and Philip's letters enclosed.

Well we are back for a rest and we are having a pretty good time. We drill in the morning and lie around in the afternoon. We are having first class weather and it reminds me of home to see all the wheat stooked and farmers hauling it in.

I am glad to hear Frank is going harvesting. I wish I could. Syd is still away. He went through Dad's unit and Dad had a good talk with him.

I was talking to two the Duquette boys last night. They were both doing well. I also saw Bob Stanley and Mr. Laban. Bert Guerin is a corporal now. Altogether there are about twenty Whitewood boys in Laban's battalion.

Victoria must be a swell place to spend a holiday.

So Fred is still talking about going farming, is he? Well a person couldn't have anything much better after the war. I think about another year will finish it.

I'll bet Uncle Arthur will have some time in Blighty.

Give my love to all the Vancouver folks and remember me to Fred. Tell him a good pipe would help some.

Jack
