Dear Em.

This will just be a line and I will write a letter very soon, perhaps tomorrow, if I can. It is now 1:45 A.M. and I have been on the jump ever since 7:30 A.M. this morning. Also I have to get up early to-morrow, so you can see I am rather busy.

Garfat is sick in hospital, so also is Cameron, our other Dental Surgeon, with this Brigade, so I have had all work to do. Then tonight I rec'd a few Xmas cards, pretty late, and have had to get them off. I only rec'd half of what I ordered so I have to go easy on them. Some of my friends will think I had forgotten them, but I haven't. All your letters arrived this week. So glad to get them & to know you are all well. As I said before I hope my letters are "family affairs" as that would make it much easier for me.
Merci beaucoup (pronounced by us 'mercy beau-cups) for the lovely handkerchiefs. They are a welcome addition to family. I am feeling fine, and so far have escaped the rotten cold which everybody over here has now. Yes, I am touching my head while I am saying it, and am not boasting. Lots of love to all and will write at length soon.
Wilbert
