May 13 Dear Mother: How are you & the family. I received your parcel the other day. The one with the shirts & stuff in it. What a treat. They are wonderfull shirts & they fit perfect. I never had a better shirt then those before. The shorts & stuff are what I very badly needed. The chocolates & cigarettes were super. First real treat I'v had over here. I received your wire & a couple of straight mail letters. Four days ago I received about 12 straight mail letters. It sure is nice to know someone is thinking of you back home. The parcel with my trunkes in it was mailed before the other one wasn't It must have got lost. We are expecting 4 or 5 days leave in a few days. I had planned yesterday to go to London & see Auntie. They say we arn't going paid & most of us are broke so we might spend it on a farm in Scotland instead. We have two weeks leave in a month when we finish here so I shall definitely go then. This 4 days will be a break as we have only had one day off since we landed. Working 7 days a week is no Joke. The weather today is bad as usual. Raining steady & cool. Don't the sun ever shine over here. Hope you have a good time a Port Dalhousie. It is as you say a very nice spot. Speaking of Tomatoes we had some for lunch yesterday. They were about the size of a small egg & we had half a one each. The food over here is not very appetizing but it is filling if you can digest it. I must stay in more at night & catch up on my mail. I have been running in to town practically every night. I had a nice evening the other night. I met a girl, & went to the show & came back to her house & had a ten oclock supper with her folks. They were very nice to me & I have a promise for some eggs when I go back. Her boyfriend or I should say fiancee is in a german prison camp. & I do admire the way she carries on without complaining. She is the only half decent girl I have met over here. Don't think I am interested in her cause Im not nor any other girl I might meet over here. We have had a few prangs over here & all of us our first a little nervous. You wire got here in two days. Sure nice to hear another parcel is on the way. You could never realize how I appreciate them & I could never thank you enough. Well I must close for now. Will write again soon. I Should be home any day now. Give my love to Dad & the family. I received Ellas letter. Very nice. I remain your Loving Son Norm
