Diary

Sunday July 16, 1916

We woke up about 8:30 - no breakfast, lay around till dinner-time but a 2 hour physical drill. We had a dandy dinner of cold stewed beef, new potatoes, bread, butter, tea and pickles (Cross & Blackwell's bottled, at that). The 26th mail came in today and it did make me home-sick to see all the goodies come from home and none for me. This bunch is very good at passing round to the fellows who never got any.

We hear the Canadians have mined hill 60 and have some tons of high explosives all ready for Fritzy.
