My dear Pa

Thanks very much for your note in Mother's parcel. I was very delighted to receive both.

I went out of our bivouac to go to the YM to write some letters and my two pals said they would stay and wait for the incoming mail and that if a parcel came for me they would open it. So jokingly I said, "Right oh! You can open them all that come for me today" for I little expected one when your last arrived only two days ago. When I got back there I found one and it would have served me right if they had opened it for being so sure.

Thanks for all the very good things it contained and for the prompt way you complied with my wishes regarding the contents.

I am very well but the weather is cold and wet and miserable as we are living in these bivouacs.

Now I must close as I'm going to a YM concert now for a little direction.

So bye-bye

Ever your very loving boy

Jack
