December 11, 1941

Well, here it is Thursday and I haven’t finished this effort. I didn’t write yesterday because I felt too blue, largely because of the bad news from Singapore. Oh well, things like this must be expected in a cut-throat War like this. I celebrated my birthday yesterday quietly and finished up by tossing off a double scotch with Art McLaughlin to cheer me up. Today, I went to Brighton for a hockey practice and am almost certain to make the Regimental Team again. It was lovely to get back on skates again, though the smell of the ice brought back poignant memories. I have just had a lovely bot bath and am now ready for bed. This unaccustomed exercise makes me very sleepy. Cheerio gang, and God bless you.

P.S. The Xmas cake was too tempting and fell before a concerted attack; it was swell.
