Toronto.

Dear Mr. Platt:

I learned only yesterday that your son, Lieut. Platt, who was in my office two years ago this summer, had died on the field of honour.

May I express to you my very sincere sympathy in your bereavement. Your son was one of those fine young Canadians to whom we looked for unselfish public service in the future. He has given his life in the cause of liberty and humanity, and his heroism and unselfishness in the face of danger will rank among the best traditions of our Canadian men serving in this war. Your son and his comrades in arms have made all Canada their debtors by their service and self-sacrifice in this critical hour of our history.

Again expressing my heartfelt sympathy, I am,
Yours faithfully,
N. W. Rowell.
