May 31.

Dear Aunt Eva and Uncle Ross,

I got the sad news about Howard in a letter from Mother this morning. I cannot tell you how sorry I am and how much I am thinking of you and the others of your family today.

There is little I can offer in the way of consolation except to give you my heartfelt wishes for some good news to come soon.

I will be glad to make what investigations I can when I get over and anything I can find out you will know as soon as I can write. If there is anything you would like me to do please ask me and I would be delighted to help. A note to me care of (Canadian Fleet Mail Office, 53 Haymarket, London) is the quickest way to reach me.

Much love to you and all the rest, and may the Lord keep you in your trial.

Love,
Hampton.

[Editor's note: While no year was included with the written date, the letter’s contents indicate it was 1941.]
