Dear Mother,

I was surprised to suddenly receive a flock of mail from home including a box of eats. Some of the food showed signs of decay, but what was left was very much appreciated. I sent £15 (about $66) home after pay day, you should get it about the end of April or the first of May. If I am low in cash when I come home on leave I haven’t any worries now. I hope I won’t need it though, because I am trying to save some money. By the way, have you started getting my allotment yet? It should get there before long.

I got a air-graph from Bruce, he must be sleepy or something. The darn things are small enough anyhow, but to top it all off he only wrote on half of it. I’m saving it to show to him when I get back. Well girlie, just to relieve your anxiety, I am living a sober, upright life. A darn dull one too, I might add.

Cheerio
Your loving son
John.

P.S. I expect to visit Aunt Nance soon
