My Dear Nerta,

I intended writing at least a note last week, but I was rather busy, then stock-taking and the monthly returns. Yesterday, in spite of the work, I took the day off from about 3 P.M., doing just what was absolutely necessary. Being Dominion Day, we had quite a little celebration, sports in the afternoon and a concert at night. The concert was put on by the best talent they could collect in the area and I think most if not all, followed the business in civil life. It was great, and in spite of the fact that my seat was on a sandbag roof, I forgot for a few minutes that there was a war on. ‘Twas not for long tho, because ten minutes after the concert finished, the heavy drone of loaded bombers told me that our fellows were out to pay their compliments to Fritzie. Hope they gave him Hell, with a capital “H.”

By now, you will be quite settled down at home, I suppose, and enjoying life as usual. Well just “keep the home fires burning.”

No! I am not “really getting bald.” I am there now. Not terribly you know but we haven’t had much rain lately, and it is rather hard on the crops.

Suppose you have not yet heard from your exams. I think they are usually late.

It is too bad you did not make Toronto. Hope you finally succeeded in making it.

That was funny about meeting Mrs. Russel, I’ll bet she did recognize you. Don’t remember Mrs. Rice tho.

Those “birds” you went up to Dundurn to see must be dead ones, not like some of the birds I have recognized – Bobbie for instance.

We are having fine weather just now, too fine to be bothered sleeping very much.

Now for my monthly order. If Heinz are still canning Sauerkraut, how about a can? I also want half a dozen pairs of ‘Holeproof’ best lisle sox in kaki or tan. My feet are so sore from the wool, that I am going to wear lisle and deck shoes while in the camp and try to get them healed up. I have bought a couple pairs of “Interwoven” an American sock down here but they cost ten francs (200) and are only lisle. If you cant get “Holeproof” don’t get one with a seam whatever you do. You could get them from London. Also a couple tubes of [?] and a couple boxes of Mennen’s Kora-Konia Talcum. It is for my feet too and I want that kind. I think that all at present.

Going to have something to eat so au revoir.

Your loving brother.
Worth.
