My Dear Mother:-

Just a line this morning. It is dull and wet out and I feel two lazy to go and shave. I am feeling fine and intended to walk down to Basingstoke this afternoon with Maccormac. Wounded are arriving daily in quite large numbers and I may be marked for Convalescent Camp any day in order to make room. I have been getting around and seeing things during the last few days. There is a very nice YMCA & a good selection of books. Last night we were at a very nice concert by a London Concert party in the Hospital auditorium meals are good and my appetite OK.

I cabled you yesterday to let you know I had arrived and needed money. Mac was able to let me have some to steer me along and I think we get another from the paymaster on Tuesday. I am very anxious to hear from France for I believe the Brigade got into some real work after I left. I hope Reid and Starrey don't get hit.

This is a queer way to write a letter but I got started wrong. I hope you are all well.

Yours.
