Dear Mother,

Just a line or so to let you know I am in Hospital with a wound through my thigh which is getting better. I am allowed up today so am leaving no time in dropping you a line I suffered a lot with it and had to get seven stitches in one part of it, where it went in. However it will be better in another month and I will be ready for more.

Many of the Rangers are wounded and many more are taking their last loving rest beneath the mud of Flanders, and many a mothers heart is breaking for her boy who will never return.

However death is nothing over here, lives are cheap and a live dog is better than a dead Lion. I hope this bloody muddy war soon Ends.
good bye love to all

Tom
