My Dearest Mother

I received your very welcome letter yesterday. It had traveled round a little before it reached me I have been severely burned on the hands face & neck by some explosive which mysteriously caught fire in a dugout. I was immediately sent to this hospital and with the treatment here which is new and leaves no scares whatever I am rapidly recovering of course my hands are still in bandages so I am unable to write myself, I have fully recovered my eye sight after having my eyes closed for a week.

I understand that patients here who become convalesence here are sent to England when I get there I will obtain furlough and can draw back pay.

Our Battalion obtained no leave while we were in England in the Summer time so I was unable to see you but now I feel confident that it wont be a long time before we met again How are you Dorothy when I get home I will explain how it was I was unable to get home with a selection of fur. A fellow patient is writing this letter for me and as he has allready written many for other helpless men I must call it off. I Still Remain
