Letter
West Down North Camp,
Salisbury Plains
Nov. 2nd.
It rains here every day and all day and bed seems about the only dry place. The mud in places, especially on the roads, is about half way up your shins, and still it rains. However, beyond it being disagreeable we are all uncomfortable.
George Blackstock was just in to see us and has just left the tent now. He agrees with us all that the English weather is fine. I have not been up to London yet, but expect to go on Wednesday after being inspected by the King and Queen. I am now a Captain, and was promoted during the week of October 29th.
