Soldiers’ Dependents.
We are in receipt of a letter from a man who says he desires to enlist, but first wants to know definitely what provision will be made in his absence on active service for his family, which consists of a wife and two young children the elder of which is three years of age.
In this case, we may inform our correspondent that his wife would receive $8.50 per month during his absence. This would be made up as follows: Government separation allowance, $20; portion of his pay assigned, $15; allowance for wife from the Canadian Patriotic Fund, $17.50; allowance for two children of the age mentioned, $6. The soldier’s pay would be $1.10 per day; but from this would be deducted, as mentioned above, a monthly assignment to his wife of $15.
