My Dear Mrs. Loney
It was very kind indeed of you to write such a nice letter. Really we enjoyed your son's visit very much, and are looking forward to his next visit. My daughter Mrs. Davis wrote to him a few weeks ago asking if he would be able to spend Christmas here. He replied saying he would have no leave until after Christmas, and then he will come to Torquay. So probably he will be here in January. We hope he will. Really we never thought of you sending us a parcel, it is too good of you. And extremely kind. We are certain to be pleased with whatever it is.
A letter from Mrs. Coppens arrived by the same post as yours did. And until then we had not heard of her illness so it was a great relief to read in your letter that she was progressing so well and would soon be home. And it was so good of you to say that you and your girls will do what you can to help her. It is strange that you had had a similar operation. I hope you do not now feel ill effects from it. It was a great pleasure to us to hear that Mrs. Coppens had received a card from her husband, and we hope as you said, that the Japs will soon be sent out of Java. We all send you our very best wishes for Christmas & the New Year.
