Dear Mother & Dad,
Just a few lines to let you know that I'm alive and well. Was recaptured by the yanks on Tues and we are being well fed and getting the best of every thing. Have not been able to write you since shortly after New Years. We have been on the march from Poland since January and have had a rough time. We were sure happy when the yanks came down the road about 3 p.m. We can hardly believe yet that we are free.
In a few days we are returning to England and hope to see you all shortly. I hope I will be able to find Ivan if he is still around. I don't think there's much more to say for now but will let you know when I arrive in England.
Cheerio for now and hope that I'll be seeing you soon. Love to all at home.
Your loving son,
Gerald
