Left Volkrust at 9 A.M. as escort to a valuable convoy. 25 wagons with about 250 mules. A lot of Infantry along. A lot of us out ahead as scouting party. Colin on extreme left of advance party and myself on extreme right. Sarg't Stringer in command. Saw lots houses with white flags on them. Didn't see any Boers. Got to Sandsprint at 3 P.M. Could hear cannons about 11 miles out at Amersfoort. British wounded coming in. Camped there for the night. Slept out . Drizzled rain a little.
