Dear Ab

Am waiting my turn on guard, so am putting in time by communing with thee beloved!

There are only about twenty of us here now, all the rest having gone back to barracks. We have great meals, all the milk we want, fruit every day, can smoke in our bunks, and outside of guards and fatigues, only have a little physical drill. We are having the time of our lives here so far, have a gramophone and a piano in the tent, which is a large one, and also have boxing gloves etc so I guess we can while away the [?] hours all right. Of course it gets irksome sticking in this blooming joint all the time, but I've managed to get outside guard, that is sentry outside the gate, similar to the one at the Ex. And I can see the trains go past and sometimes an occasional chicken, so am pretty well off. I guess it will be cold on the job tomorrow but fresh air wont hurt any one. Well sweetness give my best to John & the kids I remain

your loving brother

P.S. Dont think I'm on guard all the time, only an hour on and then several off
