My Dear Miss Blake

Enclosed you will find the personal papers belonging to your Brother, he requested me that if anything happened to him, to forward them on.

You will have been notified of his death by the war office, but you will no doubt like to know how it happened. Bert was included in a bombing party to go over the top, and raid the German trenches, and I am sorry to say that it was on this raid he got killed.

From as far as I can make out it would be about three fifteen on the morning of the twenty seventh of February.

He suffered no pain, but died fighting like a soldier and a man.

All the boys offer their sympathy for he was held in very high esteem by us all, if there is anything more you would like to know regarding him, I will do my best to accommodate you.

I remain yours very Sincerely
