Dear Mother, - I guess that I must owe you two letters at least but I will answer them in one because I am not much of a hand two write I hope this letter will find you well. I have been sick I guess it is the change of climate I was in the hospital for a week I have a bad cold pretty near pneumonia but I'm out & feel the same as ever that's the first time that I've been sick since I left home. I was vaccinated yesterday & inoculated today you have to be inoculated three times & I guess when you go through that that you are germ proof we have had a couple of weeks fine warm weather the only thing there was quite a lot of rain but Its colder today & it is snowing. I like it here pretty well but I would prefer the west. We sleep on the bare boards no mattress nor springs you have four blankets & you can put them under you & freeze or over you & then you keep awake trying to find a soft place in the boards but at that you get used to it. I got the card & gave it two the paymaster it has two go to Ottawa so it may be some time before you hear from it but the fifteen that you got that comes from the battalion here you will get that about the same time each month I suppose. Well I hope everybody I will close with much love from your loving Son John

I had a letter from A. Mary
