(get my address off Mother)
Mon April 20/42
Dear Wally :-
I was very glad to hear from you when you wrote that short but appreciated letter to me. How have you been keeping lately? I dont think I have changed too much since I came here except that I haven’t even talked to one woman since I have been here.
I suppose I dont have to tell you what kind of town Halifax is. Mother most likely told you as I told her in some of my previous letters. In plain words it a walking cemetary. On Sunday everything is closed excepting Drug Stores etc. But on the other hand I am quite happy here. I was out with Dick Scofield on Sunday. So we took the ferry to Dartmouth. There like Halifax all you could do was walk around.
I’ll be going out to sea for a day next week. It is part of my course and so I am hoping that this week will go fast. If you want to you can do something for me. Get me Gordie Graham’s address as I promised I would write to him before I left Montreal. By the way how is all the gang keeping. I often wonder what they are doing at night especially Saturday night. Have you seen Maureen lately? I have received five swell letters from her and it kind a makes me feel good.
I hear that you overhauled your Bike last week. But I shall be forced to give you a little advice. Be a very careful rider and dont get into any accidents! Remember how I didnt receive a scratch in all those years I rode a bike.
I was pleased to hear that you liked the Banner and Book I sent you. There is quite an interesting lot of stuff in the Book eh.
Well Wally this is all I can say for now as the quartermaster is piping “Lights Out”. So write soon kid and try to Behave yourself.
I’ll never forget you
Jake
