April 1 - General muster at drill shed at 8 a.m., preparing to depart. Marched up Main and John Streets, to Grand Trunk Station, the whole town turning out to see us off .Were joined at station by Millbrook and Bowmanville, also Lindsay and Peterboro Companies. Off on train at 9 a.m., the 46th Band playing "Auld Lang Syne". Two more companies came on at Belleville. Arrived at Kingston at 3 p.m. and went into barrack. Col. Williams sent for me in evening and appointed me a staff sergeant. Took my place in sergeants' mess.
