Sunday, Feb 28th. 1915,

It is Sunday night once more and I have just come down from the deck. It is very stormy now. Much worse than it was this afternoon when I was writing to Lily and Pa and Ma. There are a lot of the boys on deck and they are nearly all looking the same way, towards the Vaterland. She is rolling very heavily and she steers very badly. I cannot understand how they dared to leave port under such conditions. The waves as you stood on deck were as high as the rails and you would think they were going to bury the ship. We went to church this morning and the skipper took the service and it was very nice indeed. It brought back old memories to me. We are getting towards the danger zone now. At 5 o'clock tonight we had 1,000 miles to go. There is a big cargo of copper on board this boat and from the way some of the boys talk you would think they had cold feet for some of them are continually talking submarines.
