Welland. Nov.5.1916

My dear Mother.

It is almost supper time. I hear them at it getting ready. So I may not finish this right now. And I may too for I suppose the preparations will be elaborate for we have had company for the day. Maud B. and Jack are up from St. Catharines and a Miss MacDougal with her friends, Jake Hartman from Hamilton. They motored down and got here for a late dinner. They expected Maud’s mother and father from the Halls too, but Mr. B. was too sick with his cold to come. I hope you are over yours well enough, that you can travel now.

Well Fri. night we went out on the 6 train W Brookfield. We wore our new coats and felt real comfortable. We had a lovely time too. We always enjoy ourselves at Topp’s. Everything seems to run so smoothly. We learned to play Fan Jan and I like it real well. We also learned how W spell “blind pig” with 2 letters pg. and how to write backwards. That is quite an art. I saw George Mitchell, I always call him my cousin, here we came back on the 7. Train. Mr. B, had intended calling for us with the car in the afternoon but it rained so our plans changed.

I have “The Singer of the Kootenay” by Knowles to read this week.

Lovingly.

Gladys.
