Dear Mother

Just a line today to let you know I am all Jake. I am attached to the 37th Batty Canadian Field Artillery for a few days so that I will be qualified to act as forward Observing Officer to the artillery when we are in the line. Am having a fine soft time of it while here. Don’t have much work to do. We expect to have some big news to tell you soon if they let us tell it. The Battalion is just near us here. We got quite a gruelling a week ago but Webb & I are all ok after it. although some were not so lucky as I suppose you have seen the papers. However you need not worry now for some little time again. Give my love to all and tell Len we often wish we could drop in for a chat once in a while. Will write again soon as possible. With lots of love

Your loving son

Joe

P.S. Don’t forget to be careful of yourself. You know the war will soon be over. J.
