London, 11/10/16.

Dearest Ruth,

I wonder what you will say when you hear I am going to fly again. As you know, I have been aching to get back at it ever since I was taken out last February, so, to-day I went to the General on bended knees, and told him all about it, and much to my delight, he said I might have another chance. Furthermore, he said that I might start in at No. 2 R.S. Brooklands where the C.O. is an old pal of mine (Capt. O’Malley) and Millman is one of the instructors.

I realize, of course, that I will have to give up my captaincy which is only mine while I hold down this job as Brigade Equipment Officer. Also my pay will be just cut into half. But it is worth it, Sister mine, to get another chance at the game, and you don’t know how happy I feel. And then, too, I will be away from these long strenuous days of office work, and that’s a big consideration. Most of all though, you know, Ruth Dear, I simply could not go back home after the war and tell them that I have had a nice soft job in an office in London, and never even saw the front.

So just as soon as they get a successor for me here, I’ll be off in a cloud of dust. Send all your letters here to the Training Brigade (not the "6th Brigade"- that is out of date) and they will forward them wherever I am.

Good-bye for now, Sis, I’ll write you again soon. Lovingly yours,
Eric.
