My Dear Nerta;

I was indeed glad to get to-night your letter of Sept. 8^th and the Mater’s of the 11^th, I have also had two parcels, one you sent and one the Mater sent, with sox, cakes, chocolate, coffee, soup etc. I have just finished a fine bowl of tomato soup and some cakes. The tinned soup is so good and the “soup squares” are so rotten.

Your first week has indeed been amusing and I am sure you will enjoy the work and it will become more interesting as you go on. Christie used to tell me so many funny things that happened and it keeps one from becoming “fed up”. You will almost be able to keep the house supplied with vegetables and fruit. What!

Speaking of Lena G., do you know why she left? I hear from her quite frequently but not on that subject. She has seen some of the country and is now instructor and night sup. of a room of multiplex Telegraphy in Savannah. She was at the same work or studying it in Richmond, Va. It is pretty good work and I imagine she has a pretty good job. She was never satisfied there and I rather thought she would take up dentistry at one time.

I am glad you had a Pleasant holiday. What do you think of Brantford? I never thought a great deal of it as a business town altho it seems to be rather a nice little residential city.

I think of the bunch you are about the best off and then being at home is worth a good deal. Even being within easy reach of it would suit me right now, but if things go on much longer over here, as they have been for the last couple of months, we should be thinking of packing up about this time next year.

You can bet I am not buying Philip Morris’ for anyone but myself. Hope you have had them sent on, as I am nearly out. If they are as good as usual, I will have you send them once a month or six weeks. Tucketts were not good, at least not as good as usual. Cigaretts of all kinds are scarce and it is almost impossible to get good ones over here just now.
