Dear Wally :-

I received your swell letter this afternoon and was glad to hear the good news that you had joined the Army.  I must say that you joined a fine outfit.  But I was somewhat put back to hear that you could not join the Navy.  I see that J. Gillam and G. Thomas have also joined so you wont have time to get lonely if I know you three.

I wont mind the picture fiends as I think it would be fun.  That picture “Holiday Inn” you mentioned to me had gone through here so I guess I shall have to see it elsewhere.  It has got quite cold around here now.  So I have had to put on my winter underwear at last.  If mom knew that I guess she would blow a top.

You might call me a two timer Wally but what would you do if you met the most beautiful woman you ever laid eyes on.  I have been going out with her for the last three months and do we ever have fun.  We go everywhere together.  She a wild girl like some others I have met.  We never go dancing.  She dont drink and neither do I.  We go to a lot of shows.  What would you do about a situation like that?  I know what I am going to do.  I’ll tell you all about it when I see you and God knows when that will be.

I am in one heck of a stew for Christmas presents this year Wally.  I havent got very much money and rather than give to one and not the other I am going to wait until I get my big pay which is due at the end of the month or if I get leave before then all my troubles will be over.  I am sending out Christmas Cards though just to show I have not forgotten anybody.  I havent the slightest idea what I would like for Xmas so I guess you shall have to use your own judgement.

What is D. Sheppard doing these days and just how much of the once feared second ave. gang are left?  Now that you three have gone I guess there isnt much left of it.  About four or five months ago I wrote a letter to both Georgie Holden and Gordon Graham and I would like you to find out for me if they received them.  Will you please.

I like your [?] picture at the bottom of your last letter.  Yes it gets very cold at sea and I often wish I had something like that to keep me warm.  By the sounds of it I guess you are quite a woman killer eh?  To tell the truth I’m not doing too bad myself.  Maureen wrote me a letter saying that she has stopped going around with a fellow she had been going out with for the last couple of months.  I often wonder if she has I can’t blame her though as I do the same thing myself.  She is a swell kid and I think the world of her. (P.S. Dont say anything to anybody about the last paragraph)  The name of the girl I go around with here is named Kay and with a doubt she is the sweetest girl I have ever met.  Imagine she even like me.  imagine she even like me that some eh.  The situation so to speak is growing desperate.

Oh well Wally I guess this is about all I have to say so give my love to all back home and Be Good and write again soon.

Your Loving Brother
Jake

P.S.  Lots of Luck Wally!
