Dearest Sonnie
I am on my way to England, but as our train is standing still being repaired I am reminded of you by your birthday coming round again which makes you 7 years old. How glad I am that you have been with us these 7 years, I hope you will be with us for many more birthdays, and grow up to be a good and useful man. We cannot give you much of a birthday party while the war is on but you must remember that if we could do for you all we would like you would have the very best that could possible be thought of. –
Now good bye. I am going to cross the ocean on the ship and hope to arrive in England in time. So you will be good and help mother as you always do and you will hear of me again from over the other side
I Remain
Your loving Daddy
